When I launched Whidbey Island Jobs a few weeks ago I honestly wasn't sure what to expect. I built something I believed our community needed — but I wasn't sure anyone else felt the same way.
A couple of years ago when I was looking for work on the Island it was challenging. I'd wait for local posts to trickle in, scrub through the large job boards, and come away frustrated and discouraged. So I built something I felt was missing.
This week employers are reaching out with jobs they need posted, people are browsing the available roles and applying, and a simple Nextdoor post introducing the site reached over 900 neighbors in just a few days.
I'll be honest — all of this has surprised me. In the best possible way.
It's still early days. The site is growing and I'm learning something new each week. As the board grows I want to grow with it. Some things I'm thinking about for the future:
Helping employers write job descriptions — because not every small business has an HR department, and a well-written listing makes a real difference in who applies.
A resume database — so job seekers can register, create a professional profile, and be discoverable by local employers actively looking to hire.
More community content in The Bulletin — spotlights on local employers and success stories from people who found their next chapter right here on the Island.
To everyone who has visited the site, shared it with a friend, applied for a job, or reached out to post a listing — thank you. You're the reason this works.
