Demonstrated expertise in environmental science, environmental policy, land use planning or related field required
Exceptional written communication skills required — ability to translate technical content into clear public-facing language
Experience designing and executing public engagement campaigns or community organizing efforts required
Strong analytical skills, synthesizing scientific data, policy documents, and regulatory records
Familiarity with Washington State environmental policy or land use law preferred
An advanced degree in environmental science, policy, natural resource management, or urban planning is preferred
GIS experience — ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar is preferred

About the Role: Whidbey Environmental Action Network is a nonprofit dedicated to protecting ecosystems on Whidbey, Camano, and beyond through civic education, policy advocacy, and litigation. They're looking for a Program Director to serve as their lead strategist for policy advocacy campaign design and execution.

You'll shape how WEAN understands the environmental advocacy landscape — identifying priority issues, analyzing data, spotting policy and enforcement gaps, and building mission-aligned campaigns that move people to act. You'll work closely with the Executive Director on organizational strategy, provide editorial direction to the Engagement Manager, produce substantive written content, including white papers and campaign guides, attend public meetings, monitor land use actions, and communicate complex environmental findings to the public in clear and compelling formats.
